USU-NEA welcomes Dr. Sullivan and the ability to negotiate

USU-NEA’s statement regarding new UVM President Dr. E. Thomas Sullivan.

BURLINGTON – University Staff Union-NEA today is happy to officially welcome E. Thomas Sullivan as the next University of Vermont president.

“We welcome Dr. Sullivan and look forward to working with him as we, together, make this a university that we can all be proud of,” said Michele Patenaude, a member of USU-NEA’s leadership team who works at the Bailey Howe Library on campus. “We, like everyone on campus, are glad to be looking forward to a great new future.”

Patenaude said the union – which has filed for an election to be the union for unrepresented staff – can’t help but notice the president’s ability to negotiate his salary, benefits, health insurance, retirement and working conditions.

Watch a video of Vermont NEA President Martha Allen talking about the benefits and structure of the organization. “What’s unique about our union is that there are members in every single community in our state,” she said. “You probably know a member of Vermont NEA or your neighbors know a member of Vermont NEA.” She visited the University of Vermont in early 2012 to talk to staff members seeking to form USU-NEA.
